Moms for Liberty backs 270 local school board candidates

Parental activist group Moms for Liberty has announced a bevy of endorsements in local school board races with just one week remaining until the November midterm elections.

In total, the organization backed 270 candidates nationwide, per a press release. The group said it "celebrates the inspired citizens across the country who courageously put their names on the ballot to defend parental rights" in a press release. Moms for Liberty has 240 chapters across 42 states. 

"The time to start voting in your local school board elections is NOW! The significant impact of school board elections on the lives of American families can no longer be ignored," Co-Founders Tina Descovich and Tiffany Justice said. "Parents are fighting to reclaim their rightful spot in the upbringing of their children by voting this November for the candidates that truly respect the fundamental rights of parents. We are confident that the midterm elections will show that 2022 is truly the 'Year of The Parent.'"

Local school boards are the vehicles driving community input in local education issues, including curriculum. In both this election cycle and some recent ones, educational issues, including Critical Race Theory (CRT), parental rights, and transgender-related policies, have become drivers of conservative turnout. Most prominently, Virginia Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin managed to flip the formerly blue state running in part on parental rights in education.
