NBC provided former President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign commercial time for free during Sunday’s NASCAR playoff race after his opponent, Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, appeared on "Saturday Night Live" on the network over the weekend.

The decision to offer to the free air time was due to the Federal Communication Commission’s “equal time” rule, according to The Hollywood Reporter, citing a source.

Under FCC rules, a legally qualified candidate for office cannot be "unfairly given less access to the airwaves – outside of bona fide news exemptions – than their opponent."
