New Jersey Democrats chose state Sen. Nellie Pou to replace the late Rep. Bill Pascrell on ballot on Thursday.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, a Democrat, endorsed Pou for the job on Wednesday.

“Nellie Pou is the ideal public servant to succeed Rep. Pascrell and continue his life’s mission of building a stronger, fairer, and more inclusive New Jersey,” said Murphy in a statement.

She was officially nominated for the 9th Congressional District seat during a closed-door special convention on Thursday night.

Pascrell, a longtime member of the House of Representatives, died on Aug. 21.
