NY Democrat Rep. Jones loses primary, reelection bid to Trump impeachment lawyer Goldman
The 10th Congressional District seat left open when Rep. Jerry Nadler decided to run in Democrat primary in 12th district
Trump impeachment lawyer Daniel Goldman has won the Democrat primary in New York's 10th Congressional District race, defeating first-term Rep. Mondaire Jones.
The Associated Press called the race for Goldman early Wednesday morning after he had won 52% of the vote over Manhattan Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou, who had 48% of the vote, with 95% of the votes counted. Jones finished third.
The wide-open, highly-competitive race featured 12 candidates including Jones, who moved from his redrawn 17th district to seek a second term in the redrawn, New York City-based 10th district.
The 10th district seat was left open when Rep. Jerry Nadler decided to run in the Democrat primary in the 12th district, a race he won Tuesday night.
Districts were redrawn because New York lost a House seat as a result of the 2020 census.
Goldman was House Democrats’ lead counsel in their first impeachment proceeding against then-President Trump.
Jones ran in the 10th after Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman and fellow Democrat Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney decided to run in Jones’ redrawn 17th district, which is about 70 mile away from the 10th district. Maloney on Tuesday night won his primary, against a progressive challenger.
