Newsom says Democrats getting 'crushed on narrative' days before midterms
When asked about a red wave, Newsom said, "You feel it."
California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Wednesday that fellow Democrats are getting "crushed" in their midterm pitch to likely voters, compared to their GOP counterparts.
"We’re getting crushed on narrative," Newsom, who also is running for reelection this year, told CBS News. "We’re going to have to do better in terms of getting on the offense and stop being on the damn defense."
His comments come as much of the Democratic messaging this election cycle has focused on social issues, such as abortion, rather than economic ones.
Republicans, meanwhile, have largely hammered away on high inflation and increase violent crime numbers under Democrats.
In response to the question of whether he feels like Republicans will win big next week, Newsom responded,"Yeah, of course it does. I’m not paid to say that. ... I mean, I could be the cheerleader. I’m also pragmatic, you feel it."
