RFK Jr's VP pick claims her Democratic allies are 'terrified' of Kennedy teaming up with Trump
The vice presidential hopeful accused the Democratic Party of sabotaging the Kennedy-Shanahan campaign by keeping them out of presidential debates and blocking their access to ballot boxes in critical swing states.
Independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr.'s running mate Nicole Shanahan on Thursday claimed her old friends in the Democratic Party are "terrified" of the Kennedy campaign teaming up with former President Donald Trump.
Shanahan recently reported that the campaign is considering its best path forward, which includes potentially endorsing Trump for president. However, no final decision has been made.
The vice presidential hopeful accused the Democratic Party of sabotaging the Kennedy-Shanahan campaign by keeping them out of presidential debates and blocking their access to ballot boxes in critical swing states.
"My old Dem buddies have been flooding me with frantic calls, texts, and emails," Shanahan wrote in a post to X. "I wouldn’t dream of airing those private conversations publicly, but the message is clear: They’re terrified of the idea of our movement joining forces with Donald Trump.
"When I point out what the Democratic Party and their super PACs have done to sabotage our campaign, their response is always, 'but Trump is worse,'" she continued. "Here’s an idea: stop suing us. Let us debate. Quit rigging the media and the polls. It’s a simple formula, people—get with it."
The Kennedy campaign is currently facing a legal challenge in Pennsylvania, where two Democratic activists claimed Kennedy should not be on the ballot because he allegedly put down a fake address on his candidacy form, according to the Associated Press.
Democrats were hoping that if Kennedy withdrew his candidacy, then he would unite his supporters around Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris. Kennedy has been accused of being a "spoiler candidate," for both main political parties because he's been polling at approximately 5% recently.
Kennedy is expected to announce the future of his campaign at a news briefing on Friday.
