A Democrat candidate for a House seat in Oklahoma has apologized for her behavior at a middle-school girl's sleepover in which became intoxicated, berated at least two girls and vomited into a hamper.

Candidate Abby Broyles, 32, first denied being at the party, then told a local TV that she experienced an adverse reaction to a combination of sleeping pills and wine and remembers nothing about the Valentine's Day night sleepover.

"I want to say sorry from the bottom of my heart, I apologize for any hurt or damage or trauma that my behavior, when I didn’t know what I was doing, caused," she said the Associated Press. "I'm deeply sorry.

"The things I’m accused to have said are not who I am. They’re not a reflection of my beliefs at all. It’s clear this media smear campaign is politically backed, and I won’t stop fighting for Oklahomans."

Broyles ran an unsuccessful 2020 campaign to unseat Oklahoma GOP Sen. James Inhofe.

She said about the sleep pills, given to her by a friend: "Instead of helping me sleep, I hallucinated. And I don’t remember anything until I woke up or came to, and I was throwing up in a hamper."

The candidate had been invited to the sleepover by a friend from law school who is the mother of one of the girls.

Parents and at least one of the girls told the outlet NonDoc, which first reported the story, that Broyles had used profanity-laced terminology including "acne-f***er" and "hispanic-f***er" to berate the 12-and-13-year-old girls.

Broyles also initially called the accounts of her behavior "cooked up" lies meant as political attacks against her.
