Sister of progressive Democrat Rep. Jayapal loses bid for House seat in Oregon

The primary was for the seat of retiring Democrat Rep. Earl Blumenauer.

The sister of progressive Democrat Rep. Pramila Jayapal on Tuesday night lost her bid for a House seat in Oregon.

Susheela Jayapal, a progressive and former Multnomah County commissioner, lost to state Rep. Maxine Dexter.

Also in the primary race was Gresham City Councilor Eddy Morales.

They were competing to fill seat of retiring Democrat Rep. Earl Blumenauer, in the state's Democrat-leaning 3rd Congressional Districrt.

Congresswoman Jayapal, of Washington state, is the chairwoman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
