Los Angeles Republican mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt reassured his supporters Monday that a lot of votes still need to be counted in the primary, despite falling behind progressive City Council member Nithya Raman.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass secured one of the general election slots last week but failed to secure the 50% necessary to automatically be reelected.

The Associated Press has not called the second candidate, but the latest tally shows Raman ahead by more than 3,000 votes, with approximately 83% of the vote counted.

"Folks, we're dealing with a fraction of a percentage point difference, there's still hundreds of thousands of votes outstanding, and LA officials have given us the next 3 weeks to count," Pratt told his supporters on X. "Let's git-r-dun!"

Pratt, who is known for playing a villain for four seasons on the MTV reality show "The Hills," said the hate he received from the show prompted him and his wife Heidi Montag to get concealed-carry weapon permits and support for gun rights is what drove him to run for mayor as a Republican.

The counting, which is still occurring a week after the primary, comes because every active registered voter in California receives ballots by mail, and ballots postmarked by Election Day can arrive as much as a week later.
