South Carolina GOP Rep. Nancy Mace survives Trump-backed challenge
Mace was critical of Trump after the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot but didn't vote to impeach him
South Carolina incumbent GOP Rep. Nancy Mace survived a Trump-backed challenge Tuesday night in her Republican primary race.
Mace, who is seeking a second term, defeated Katie Arrington, a former state lawmaker who former President Trump endorsed in their 1st Congressional District race.
Though Mace was targeted by Trump for her criticism of him after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, she had the backing of such high-profile Republicans as former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who campaigned for Mace in the lead up to Election Day.
South Carolina state GOP Rep. Russell Fry, who Trump endorsed, defeated incumbent Republican Rep. Tom Rice on Tuesday in their primary.
