Rep. Rob Menendez Jr., D-N.J., won a competitive Democratic primary on Tuesday against Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla.

Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., was indicted on federal bribery charges in September, which was expected to make his son's re-election bid tougher.

The elder Menendez announced that he is running again for his Senate seat as an independent, despite the indictment.

Some senators, including Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., have called for Menendez to resign.
