Johnson's GOP Senate reelection campaign raises $7.1 million in first quarter
Republican must retain their 50 seats in the Senate and win additional one to take majority
The reelection campaign for GOP Sen. Ron Johnson reports the Wisconsin lawmaker raised $7.1 million during the first quarter of 2022.
According to the campaign, 95% of the donations came from individuals donating $200 or less. The campaign suggests that the wealth of semi-small dollar donations are evidence of strong grassroots support from Wisconsinites.
"Senator Johnson’s strong fundraising quarter shows broad support for his campaign," Johnson spokesperson said. "He is using these resources to counter the lies and distortions of multiple Democrat candidates, liberal dark money groups, and biased media."
Johnson is running in what is considered a "toss-up" race by the Cook Political Report. It is one of the most closely watched races in the country and one Republicans believe they must win to reclaiming control of the Senate.
Johnson will face the winner of the Democratic primary that appears to be a candidate race among Alex Lasry, a Milwaukee Bucks executive; State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski; and Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes, who is currently leading the field with 23% of polled support.
