Former Texas Republican Congressman Will Hurd enters 2024 presidential race
"This morning, I filed to be the Republican nominee for president of the United States," Hurd said.
Former Texas Republican Rep. Will Hurd announced Thursday he is joining the 2024 presidential race.
"This morning, I filed to be the Republican nominee for president of the United States," Hurd told CBS News.
Hurd, a former CIA clandestine officer and the only black Republican in the House while he served from 2015 to 2021, has been a critic of former President Donald Trump.
During his interview on "CBS Mornings," Hurd said: "if we nominate a lawless, selfish, failed politician like Donald Trump – who lost the House, the Senate, and the White House – we all know Joe Biden will win again."
Hurd is joining a crowded GOP primary field with 11 other major candidates, where Trump, with 52.4% support, holds a more than 30% lead over the second-highest candidate, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, according to FiveThirtyEight. No other candidate is polling in double digits.
