Democrats currently hold the majority in the House of Representatives with 232 seats out of 435 and the Republicans would need to pick up 17 seats to take back control of the chamber, which they lost in the 2018 midterm elections.

The GOP holds 197 House seats in the current session of Congress. In addition, there is one Libertarian serving in the House, Rep. Justin Amash who left the Republican Party, as well as five vacant seats (four that were occupied by Republicans and one by a Democrat.)

The Cook Political Report and FiveThirtyEight are forecasting that Democrats are likely to gain seats in the general election in Nov. 3.

There are 33 competitive House races to monitor on Nov. 3 that will decide which party controls the chamber next year.
