Tim Walz says campaigning as Harris' running mate was the 'honor and privilege of my life'
Walz admitted that the election results were not "what we wanted," but he was grateful to the supporters they secured over the last several months, and urged them to continue fighting for the United States.
Minnesota Governor and former Democratic vice presidential hopeful Tim Walz on Wednesday wrote that campaigning as Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate this year was the "honor and privilege of my life."
Former President Donald Trump won the presidential election in the early hours of Wednesday morning, after successfully flipping Wisconsin. He also won the critical swing states of Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
Walz admitted that the election results were not "what we wanted," but he was grateful to the supporters they secured over the last several months, and urged them to continue fighting for the United States.
"Thank you Vice President Kamala Harris for putting your faith in me, and selecting me as your running mate," Walz said in a post on X. "Campaigning at your side was the honor and privilege of my life."
"While the outcome is not what we wanted, I am grateful to the millions of Americans who joined our campaign and stood up for our greatest ideals: decency, compassion, and love of our neighbor," he wrote in a second post. "Now more than ever, we need you to continue fighting for those values and the country we all love."
Ohio GOP Sen. JD Vance will become the next vice president on Jan. 20, instead of Walz.
Harris conceded her race in a separate statement on Wednesday afternoon, and urged her supporters to accept the election results, but promised to continue fighting for "freedom, for opportunity, and for fairness and the dignity of all people."
"In our nation, we owe loyalty not to a president or party, but to the Constitution of the United States, and to our conscience and our God," Harris said. "My allegiance to all three is why I am here to say, while I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign: The fight for freedom, for opportunity, and for fairness and the dignity of all people."
