Transgender lawmaker wins Democratic primary for Delaware’s sole U.S. House seat
State Treasurer Colleen Davis and former Delaware State Housing Authority Director Eugene Young had dropped out of the race and endorsed McBride.
Delaware state Sen. Sarah McBride on Tuesday night won the Democratic nomination for the state’s sole House seat, putting McBride in position to become the first openly transgender lawmaker in Congress's lower chamber.
McBride ran unopposed after State Treasurer Colleen Davis and former Delaware State Housing Authority Director Eugene Young dropped out of the race and endorsed McBride.
The House seat is now held by Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, a Democrat running for Senate.
McBride is favored to win the general election for the seat in the solidly blue state.
