Former President Donald Trump said he still would have picked Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, as his running mate if Vice President Kamala Harris had been the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee instead of President Biden when he made the decision.

The president dropped out of the race on Sunday and endorsed Harris for the job.

Trump was asked during a press briefing on Tuesday if he would have gone in a different direction with his running mate selection knowing now that Harris is on her way to clinching the Democratic nomination.

"I'd do the same thing. He's doing really well. He's really caught on," Trump said.
