Texas Democratic Rep. Marc Veasey is dropping his reelection bid, after he was expected to run for fellow Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett's open seat, according to a report.

Veasey will instead run for Tarrant County judge, acccording to a report by the Texas Tribune and other news outlets. The congressman's decision comes after Texas passed a new congressional map that could give the GOP five more seats in the 2026 elections. Veasey's Dallas-area district was redrawn to favor Republicans.

He had been expected to run for the seat that is being vacated by Crockett, who launched her Senate campaign on Monday after former Rep. Colin Allred dropped out of that race.

Allred decided to instead run in a House Democratic primary against his successor, Rep. Julie Johnson, who won his old district after he left for his first Senate bid last year.
