Virginia GOP Rep. Bob Good officially lost his primary on Tuesday, after the Virginia Board of Elections certified the election results in the state's fifth Congressional district in favor of challenger John McGuire.

McGuire, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, defeated Good by approximately 375 votes, according to the final results of last month's Republican primary, ABC News reported.

"Number one, I want to thank God. We could not have done this without my wife Tracy, our incredible team, and of course President Trump," McGuire said in a post on X after the results were certified. "This is the honor of a lifetime."

Good is now expected to request a recount after the results fell within the 1% margin allowed for the procedure. However, Good will need to pay for the recount himself because the final percentage was 0.6%, which is above the 0.5% threshold that forces the state to pay for it.

"The people of our district are reaching out to our campaign demanding that we pursue a recount. Our donors, our volunteers, and our supporters expect it," Good's campaign manager Diana Shores told NBC News. "This isn’t about Bob Good. This is about the people of the district."

"We will pursue the recount to settle any questions about the fairness or transparency of the election process," she continued. "This way, voters can confidently move forward to the general election."

Good previously said he will accept the results of a recount, even if it goes to McGuire, but has questioned the integrity of the election.

Virginia Board of Elections chairman John O'Bannon rejected the notion that the election was unfair during Tuesday's board meeting, claiming he could "safely say we’ve had free and fair elections."
