Watchdog group: NY hasn't fixed its voter registration form to comply with federal election law

"Your lack of a response is troubling and disregards the need to ensure public trust that New York is maintaining accurate voter rolls as required by federal law," they wrote in a letter to the NYSBOE

A watchdog group is accusing New York election officials of failing to address concerns about the state’s voter registration process, escalating a dispute over compliance with federal law.

Restoring Integrity and Trust in Elections (RITE), a nonpartisan organization focused on election security, said it raised multiple issues with the New York State Board of Elections (NYSBOE) in a letter sent late last year.

According to the group, those concerns included alleged deficiencies in the state’s voter registration form that could conflict with federal requirements.

RITE claims that most of the issues it identified remain unresolved. The group, joined by New York GOP Rep. Claudia Tenney, is now pushing for greater transparency, calling on the board to turn over detailed records and data related to the state’s voter registration system.

They argue that such information is necessary to determine whether additional problems exist.

In a letter sent earlier this week, the group criticized the board for what it described as a lack of responsiveness.

"Your lack of a response is troubling and disregards the need to ensure public trust that New York is maintaining accurate voter rolls as required by federal law," they wrote in a letter to the NYSBOE, Fox News reported.
