Biden orders Office of Environmental Justice to oversee, 'revitalize' government commitment to cause
The new office will be led by a Federal Chief Environmental Justice Office.
President Biden will sign an executive order Friday intended to "revitalize" the country's "commitment to environment justice" for everyone, according to the White House.
The order – "Revitalize Our Nation’s Commitment to Environmental Justice for All" – includes creating a White House Office of Environmental Justice and orders all "Executive branch agencies" to integrate environmental justice into their mission.
“Today, the president will sign an executive order further embedding environmental justice into the work of federal agencies to achieve real, measurable progress that communities can count on," the White House said in announcing Biden's plans.
The new office will be led by a Federal Chief Environmental Justice Officer, who will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of environmental justice policy across the administration.
