'Hypocrite': Dem slammed for propane cooktop after telling Americans to ditch gas stoves
Senator Heinrich has been an outspoken proponent of the green agenda.
United States Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a staunch green energy and climate activist, received backlash online ahead of Independence Day after he posted a photo with what appears to include a propane gas cooking setup.
The Democratic lawmaker posed in a photo published on his Twitter account Saturday with the caption, "Fourth of July prep: Drop your favorite summer chile recipes now." In the picture, he's standing in front of an outdoor cookout setup, which included a portable gas cooktop, prompting many to call out his "hypocrisy."
"Hey Hypocrite Heinrich," one user commented under the post, with others dubbing him an "embarrassment to New Mexico" and "a joke."
"The dude who wants to ban your gas stoves and 'electrify everything' cooks with propane," wrote New Mexico Republican Rep. John Block in response to the picture.
Sen. Heinrich boasts the hashtag "electrifyeverything" in his account bio and has been a leading Senate voice for green energy. Though he's claimed there's "no ban or plan for a ban on gas stoves" by Democrats, Heinrich has opposed Republican legislation to prevent the federal government from cracking down on the cooking appliance.
"Gas powered appliances for me but not for thee," read another reply to Heinrich's post, this time, from the New Mexico Republican Party.
Others responded with snide comments such as "nice propane tank" and "Why aren't you cooking on an solar-powered electric grill?"
Just The News contacted Sen. Heinrich's office but did not receive a response in time for publication.
