Only 5% of countries deliver climate plans for meeting targets under the Paris Agreement
The nations missing the deadline account for 83% of global emissions.
Only 10 of 200 countries that are required to submit new climate plans under the Paris Agreement met the Feb. 10 deadline.
Under the international climate agreement, according to AFP, each country is required to provide a stricter plan for cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 2035, including a detailed outline for how the nation plans to achieve its targets.
The nations missing the deadline, according to Carbon Brief, account for 83% of global emissions.
The nonbinding multinational agreement commits signing nations to limit greenhouse gas emissions to 1.5 degrees celsius of warming above pre-industrial levels. President Donald Trump withdrew the U.S. from the agreement upon taking office last month.
