Second bill to extinguish gas stove crackdown passes House
The bipartisan legislation advanced to the Senate in a 249-181 vote.
A second bill rebuking Biden's "war" on gas stoves passed the House in a bipartisan vote on Wednesday.
The Save Our Gas Stoves Act was introduced by Republican Congresswoman Debbie Lesko, R-Ariz. in March to enact "limits on energy conservation standards for kitchen ranges or ovens under the Energy Policy and Conservation Act." It also bars Biden's Department of Energy (DOE) from "prescrib[ing] or amend[ing] energy conservation standards for kitchen ranges or ovens" if doing so limits the availability of certain stoves.
"We are taking a STAND for consumer choice and SAVING Americans’ gas stoves," Rep. Lesko wrote on Twitter after the bill's passage, slamming DOE's "extreme" push to "eliminate" the appliance.
Under Biden's DOE, half of America's gas-powered stoves would fail to meet the agency's proposed energy consumption standards, a move Lesko deemed "out of touch" with the average American family and imposes unnecessary costs.
On Tuesday, the House passed the Gas Stove Protection and Freedom Act to “prohibit the use of Federal funds to ban gas stoves.” Both appear unlikely to survive the Democrat-controlled Senate.
