Tesla’s Cybertruck, which debuted in November 2023, outsold Ford’s F-150 Lightning in May.

Vehicle registration data released last week showed 3,907 registrations in May compared to 2,353 for the Ford Lightning. To date, more Lightnings have been sold than the Cybertruck, according to The Washington Times.

May marks the first time the Tesla pickup has exceeded Lightning sales, but the Lightning remains the most popular electric truck on the market.

Despite its popularity, Ford has lost $132,000 on each EV it sold in the first quarter of 2024, and sales haven't been on pace with the company's expectations. Ford reportedly cut orders from its battery suppliers in May, and it's delayed new EV lines.

The Cybertruck has had its challenges, including a recall of nearly 4,000 units due to a pedal malfunction that caused it to accelerate.
