New York Mayor-elect Eric Adams says he wants his first three paychecks in Bitcoin when he officially becomes the city’s top official, an attempt to show his commitment to make the city the international center of digital currency and finance.

Adams, who on Tuesday was elected mayor, made the commitment Thursday after a similar vow by Miami GOP Mayor Francis Suarez, according to the New York Daily News.

"In New York we always go big, so I’m going to take my first THREE paychecks in Bitcoin when I become mayor," Adams tweeted, responding directly to Suarez. “NYC is going to be the center of the cryptocurrency industry and other fast-growing, innovative industries! Just wait!”

Whether Adams, a Democrat, can access his paychecks through Bitcon after he takes office Jan. 1 is unclear.
