Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms joins Biden campaign as Trump leads in Peach State
Bottoms served as mayor from 2018-2022 and later advised the White House on public engagement and served as a vice chair of the Democratic National Committee
Former Democratic Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has signed on as a senior advisor to the Biden campaign amid polling data suggesting that the commander-in-chief trails former President Donald Trump in the Peach State.
Trump won the state in the 2016 election cycle, but lost it narrowly to Biden in 2020. He currently maintains an average 4.0% lead over Biden in Georgia, according to RealClearPolitics. The state's 16 electoral votes are likely to prove pivotal in deciding the 2024 election and Bottoms has expressed fears of the consequences of a Trump victory.
"We often say that each election is the most important election of our lifetime," Bottoms told EBONY. "This one absolutely is. We spent four years tormented by the policies and erratic behavior of Donald Trump and another four years of promised retribution to his political enemies is just the tip of the iceberg of the chaos that he will once again bring to America."
Bottoms served as mayor from 2018-2022 and later advised the White House on public engagement and served as a vice chair of the Democratic National Committee, according to The Hill.
The Peach State featured prominently in Trump's claims of election fraud and he faces charges from Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis over his challenges, though that case has been paused by a state appeals court.
