Gaetz reams 'desperate' DeSantis for inviting Harris to Florida

Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz has slammed Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., for inviting Vice President Kamala Harris to the Sunshine State amid a row over the state's handling of slavery in its curriculum.
Gaetz, a prominent supporter of former President Donald Trump, appeared to connect the invitation to the governor's embattled campaign against the ex-commander-in-chief.
"Imagine being desperate enough to be thirsty for a Kamala visit," he posted on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
Harris recently made headlines for criticizing excerpts from the state's curriculum that acknowledged some slaves developed marketable skills while in bondage. The governor attracted criticism not just from Harris, but also from many prominent black leaders in the Republican Party.
The governor has struggled in the polls since declaring his candidacy earlier this year, though he remains the foremost challenger to Trump in the Republican primary.
