GOP lawmaker excoriates Jan. 6 committee as new footage comes to light

Texas Republican Rep. Troy Nehls on Monday tore into the defunct House Jan. 6 committee for selectively presenting materials in order to control the narrative around events at the U.S. Capitol on that date.

"We said it was a sham right from the get go," Nehls said on the "Just the News, No Noise" television show. "We all know what we've said it when she first, you know, declined or restricted Republicans from being on the committee. It was the first time in the history of Congress. Nancy Pelosi rejected a minority leader's picks to be on that subcommittee."

"[W]e knew way back then that what you're going to hear from this committee, what the American people going to hear is nothing but a bunch of half truths and lies. And that's what we saw," he added. "And they're going to fabricate things, they're going to hide things. They're not going to ask the right questions. And people that started answering truthfully, they're going to interrupt... They control the narrative."

Nehls made the remarks after Just the News unveiled Capitol Hill security footage showing individuals leaving the building through a West Terrace door, permitting hundreds of demonstrators to enter.

The Texas Republican went on to address then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's withholding of the security footage while the Jan. 6 panel conducted its investigation, saying "[s]he didn't want anybody to look at this."

"Now they picked and choose what they wanted to expose during that sham committee," he went on. "They got people screaming, they found the worst 10 minutes inside the Capitol. But when you truly see the video, there are hours and hours of no violence, non violent protesters just walking around inside the Capitol, waving their flags, singing 'God Bless America.'"
