GOP Rep. Brandon Gill backs Paxton in Texas Senate race: 'Senate needs serious change'
The move marks Paxton's first major pickup of support since the start of the runoff campaign.
Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, on Thursday endorsed Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the Texas GOP Senate primary, choosing him over incumbent Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas.
"I am officially endorsing [Ken Paxton] to be our next Senator from Texas.
The Senate needs serious change— people who understand what time it is and what is at stake for our country.
And that starts by electing conservative warriors like Ken," he posted on X.
Gill first shared his endorsement with Breitbart News. The move marks Paxton's first major pickup of support since the start of the runoff campaign. Betting odds currently favor Paxton to win the nomination over Cornyn, giving the challenger a 67% shot at winning the runoff.
Paxton managed to force a runoff with Cornyn last month in the initial election. President Donald Trump subsequently weighed in, saying he planned to endorse one candidate and ask the other to drop out to spare the party a protracted primary.
Paxton then offered to drop out if Cornyn could force the SAVE America Act, a marquis voter ID bill, through the Senate, which he has failed to do. Trump, for his part, has withheld his endorsement.
