GOP Rep. Lamborn announces he will not seek reelection in 2024

His announcement comes one day after Missouri GOP Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer indicated he would not seek reelection.

Colorado Republican Rep. Doug Lamborn on Friday announced that he would not seek reelection in 2024, making him the second House GOP lawmaker from his state to do so this cycle.

"I'm not getting any younger. I want to spend time with my children, grandchildren, with my wife. I want to look for opportunities to do good," he said on the Richard Randall Show.

Lamborn represents the solidly Republican-leaning 5th Congressional District, centered around Colorado Springs. He first took office in 2007.

His announcement comes one day after Missouri GOP Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer indicated he would not seek reelection. In Colorado, moreover, GOP Rep. Ken Buck, who represents the 4th District, announced his retirement in November. Buck's district includes the vast swathes of rural territory to the east of Denver.

His retirement has prompted Colorado GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert, who narrowly won reelection in her home 3rd District, to announce she will seek election to his seat in 2024.
