Kentucky Republican Rep. Thomas Massie on Monday likened former U.N. ambassador and current Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley to former Wyoming Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, who has long advocated for an interventionist American foreign policy.

Haley, throughout her campaign, has focused largely on foreign policy and espoused support for both Israel and Ukraine amid the ongoing conflicts in both nations. Her positions have led to frequent debate spats with presidential rival Vivek Ramaswamy.

Massie, for his part, said on Monday that "Nikki Haley is a brunette Liz Cheney. She hates free speech as much as she loves war and foreign aid."

The Kentucky lawmaker is an advocate for general American non-intervention in foreign conflicts and has been a sharp critic of Republican resolutions declaring support for Jerusalem and attempts to redefine antisemitism to include anti-Zionism.

Cheney famously led dissident Republicans in voting for Trump's second impeachment after the Jan. 6 Capitol Riot and later served on the Democrat-led Jan. 6 panel. During her final term in Congress, she was a prominent supporter of aiding Ukraine against the Russian invasion.

She lost her primary in 2022 decisively to the Trump-backed Harriet Hageman.
