Video of Biden claiming in 2022 he had cancer resurfaces after disclosure he has prostate cancer
“That’s why I and so damn many other people I grew up [with] have cancer,” then-President Biden said.
The announcement from former President Joe Biden's office this past weekend that the former commander-in-chief was recently diagnosed with an "aggressive form" of prostate cancer has resulted in the resurfacing of a July 2022 video clip of him saying he had cancer.
Biden made the claim during a speech in Somerset, Massachusetts, about climate change in which he recalled his childhood in Delaware, which has oil refineries.
“The first frost, you know what was happening? You had to put on your windshield wipers to get, literally, the oil slick off the window,” Biden said. “That’s why I and so damn many other people I grew up [with] have cancer and why, for the longest time, Delaware had the highest cancer rate in the nation.”
Biden didn't provide further details about the cancer. But a fact-checker for The Washington Post clarified his comments, posting on X, "Before he became president, he'd had non-melanoma skin cancers removed."
Then-White House spokesperson Andrew Bates reposted the clarification, confirming, "This is what the president was referring to."
