House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., on Tuesday endorsed former President Donald Trump's bid to return to the White House, handing the frontrunner for the Republican nomination a key endorsement ahead of the Iowa Caucus.

"I am proud to endorse Donald Trump for president in 2024, and I look forward to working with President Trump and a Republican House and Senate to fight for those families who are struggling under the weight of Biden’s failed policies," Scalise said.

Scalise currently stands as the second highest-ranking Republican in the House of Representatives behind Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La. Following House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's ouster from the lower chamber's top position, Scalise unsuccessfully sought the post himself, but ultimately bowed out of the race after failing to unify the conference.

Johnson, for his part, formally endorsed Trump in November while McCarthy did so the following month. Trump currently stands as the clear frontrunner in the Republican primary, boasting as average 51.3% lead, according to RealClearPolitics.
