Mike Johnson meets with Trump at Mar-a-Lago: report
Details of any discussions between the pair have not yet emerged, though the meeting follows their reciprocal endorsements.
House Speaker Mike Johnson this week met with former President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, according to a report from Punchbowl News.
Trump's estate on Monday evening was the venue of a fundraiser for Florida GOP Rep. Gus Bilirakis. Johnson's attendance marked the first meeting between the former president and Johnson since his elevation to leadership of the lower chamber.
Details of any discussions between the pair have not yet emerged, though the meeting follows their reciprocal endorsements. During the GOP's tumultuous leadership battle, Trump urged lawmakers to elect Johnson after previously backing Ohio GOP Rep. Jim Jordan.
"My strong SUGGESTION is to go with the leading candidate, Mike Johnson, & GET IT DONE, FAST!" he posted at the time.
Johnson subsequently endorsed Trump's reelection bid last week, saying "I have endorsed him wholeheartedly... he had a phenomenal first term... I'm all in for President Trump... I expect he’ll be our nominee."
