Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday said that his "strong SUGGESTION" to the House is to vote for Louisiana Republican Rep. Mike Johnson to be speaker because he was the leading candidate compared to other GOP leaders.

Johnson on Tuesday became the fourth GOP candidate to be nominated as House speaker after Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was ousted from the position earlier this month.

The House is voting Wednesday on whether Johnson should become speaker.

Considering the other people who also ran for the GOP nomination, Trump wrote on Truth Social: "I am not going to make an Endorsement in this race, because I COULD NEVER GO AGAINST ANY OF THESE FINE AND VERY TALENTED MEN, all of whom have supported me, in both mind and spirit, from the very beginning of our GREAT 2016 Victory."

Johnson became the "ultimate winner of yesterday's vote, by a significant margin," Trump wrote. "My strong SUGGESTION is to go with the leading candidate, Mike Johnson, & GET IT DONE, FAST!"

The House has been without a permanent speaker since McCarthy's ousting. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Minn., all had the GOP nomination for speaker at one point over the past several weeks but have since dropped out of the race.
