Iowa radio host Steve Deace endorses DeSantis

"I’m endorsing Ron DeSantis for president because I think he’s the strongest leader in the race. I think that’s proven. I’ve just seen a level of leadership, strength, that I’ve just not seen in this era," he said.

Iowa radio host Steve Deace on Friday endorsed Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, adding a Hawkeye State heavyweight to the governor's list of endorsees.

"I’m endorsing Ron DeSantis for president because I think he’s the strongest leader in the race. I think that’s proven. I’ve just seen a level of leadership, strength, that I’ve just not seen in this era," he said, according to The Hill.

"I’ve seen a lot of good people come and go, but frankly I have never seen it, when it comes to the issues that are going to decide the future for our children and grandchildren, who has more knowledge, more willingness, more resume, in understanding them, what to do about them, and then actually doing it," he added. "I’ve never seen anything like what Ron DeSantis has done in Florida."

"I’m honored to receive the endorsement from the great  [Steve Deace] Like so many Iowans, Steve knows the time for excuses is over. We will get the job done in 2024!" DeSantis tweeted after the endorsement.

The Florida governor has seen his national polling dip since declaring his candidacy and currently trails former President Donald Trump by an average 39.1% in the RealClearPolitics polling average.

In Iowa, specifically, Trump leads DeSantis 44% to 20% in a recent New York Times poll. The state hosts the first nominating contest in the Republican primary and candidates traditionally campaign heavily in the state.
