Jim Jordan subpoenas DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for illegal alien entry data
Jordan sent the subpoena the same day that the Senate dismissed two articles of impeachment against Mayorkas that House Republicans approved earlier this year.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan on Wednesday issued a subpoena to Department of Homeland Secretary Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas seeking materials related to the number of illegal entrants to the U.S. under the Biden administration.
Jordan sent the subpoena the same day that the Senate dismissed two articles of impeachment against Mayorkas that House Republicans approved earlier this year.
"Since January 20, 2021, the Biden Administration has released more than 4.6 million illegal aliens into the United States," Jordan wrote. "According to press reports, on January 8, 2024, 'when meeting privately with [Border Patrol] agents in Eagle Pass, Texas,' you admitted to the high rate of illegal alien releases. In that discussion, you acknowledged that more than 85 percent of illegal aliens encountered at the southwest border are being released into the interior of the country."
Jordan then recounted the panel's efforts to secure materials related to the number of illegal alien entries during Biden's tenure, but highlighted that the DHS had failed to voluntarily comply with its requests.
