House Speaker Mike Johnson on Tuesday announced that the House would vote on a constitutional amendment to cap the number of justices on the Supreme Court at nine.

Speaking to reporters, Johnson criticized the Democratic Socialists of America over their calls to pack the Supreme Court and insisted the chamber would force Democrats to go on the record on the issue.

"So we're going to put that bill on the floor tomorrow on suspension because it requires a 2/3 vote of both chambers of Congress to amend the Constitution," he said. "And we will have them put their money where their mouth is."

Calls to pack the court have grown in recent years, largely due to the success of Republicans in confirming conservative justices to the bench, who have gone on to rule in landmark cases favoring the right.
