Kristi Noem on GOP primary: 'Why run if you can't win?'
She declined to answer whether she would serve as Trump's running mate, acknowledging he had not asked her to do so.
South Dakota Republican Gov. Kristi Noem on Wednesday opined that former President Donald Trump's presence in the party primary effectively eliminated the change of another politician claiming the party nomination.
Trump currently maintains a 38-point lead over nearest rival Ron DeSantis in the RealClearPolitics polling average, earning 53.9% support to the Florida governor's 15.9% while no other candidate commands double-digit support.
"The fact is, none of them can win as long as Trump’s in the race. And that’s just the facts. So why run if you can’t win," she said, in a Fox News interview. Noem has not yet issued an endorsement in the presidential primary, but told the outlet that "you'll hear something from me" on the matter.
She declined to answer whether she would serve as Trump's running mate, acknowledging he had not asked her to do so.
"You know, he hasn’t asked me, so we’ll cross that bridge — we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. I don’t really answer hypotheticals," she added.
