Kushner critiques DeSantis migrant flights: 'These are human beings'

Former President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, criticized Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis sending migrants on planes to Martha's Vineyard in protest of the Biden administration's lax enforcement of immigration law.

Earlier this month, DeSantis sent two planes full of migrants to the upper crust left-wing stronghold, prompting outrage from Democratic politicians. They were promptly ferried to a nearby military base. Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott and Arizona Republican Gov. Doug Ducey have also transported migrants to Democratic cities, a ploy which has seen even Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell line up in support.

Speaking to Fox News, however, Kushner took a more critical view.

"I personally watch what's happening, and it's very hard to see at the southern border... We have to remember that these are human beings, they're people, so seeing them being used as political pawns one way or the other is very troubling to me," he said Tuesday, per The Hill.

Kushner went on to highlight the difficult journey that illegal migrants make in the first place to reach the United States.

"People don't talk enough about the fact that these people are lured into these journeys by the coyotes; they're paying a lot of money," he continued. "I think 80 percent of women are sexually assaulted along the way. They come into America, they don't have papers, many of them are exploited... so it's a very sad situation."

He then contrasted the current surge in migration and the ongoing humanitarian disaster at what a UN organization dubbed the "deadliest land crossing in the world" with the situation under Donald Trump.

"Under President Trump, we had the lowest border crossings in history when he turned over the administration. The border was secure, it was very safe," he concluded.
