New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani this week repeated his call for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu while he is in New York City to speak at the United Nations General Assembly.

Netanyahu is the subject of a warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC) over alleged war crimes in Gaza. Mamdani has said the U.S. should enforce that warrant, but federal authorities are not expected to do so and the U.S. is not a party to the Rome Statute, which established the ICC.

“When it comes to Benjamin Netanyahu, I have described him as I believe him to be — a war criminal and an architect of a horrific genocide of the Palestinian people,” Mamdani told CNN on Monday. "“If the International Criminal Court deems someone worthy of an arrest because of a violation of those laws, then who are we to say that anyone should be above that?"

His comments followed a meeting with President Donald Trump, whom Mamdani invited to Gracie Mansion that day. Trump is also expected to address the United Nations on Tuesday.
