Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Thursday introduced a resolution to censure Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar over a video in which she allegedly vowed to pursue the interests of Somalia through her position in Congress.

Last weekend, Omar addressed a group of supporters in the Somali language and reportedly endorsed Mogadishu's territory claims against the breakaway state of Somaliland and neighboring nations.

"For as long as I am in the US Congress, Somalia will never be in danger, its waters (Indian Ocean) will not be stolen by Ethiopia or others. The US would not dare to support anyone against Somalia to steal our land or oceans. Sleep in comfort, knowing I am here to protect the interests of Somalia from inside the US system," she said, according to a translation from the Ambassador at Large of the Republic of Somaliland. "Ethiopia and Kenya have stolen and continue to occupy the Somali Region state, which belong to Somalia... We will liberate the occupied territories stolen from i.e. Somalia, Djibouti, Somaliland, and the North Eastern Province (in Kenya) that belong to Greater Somalia."

Omar has condemned the video's interpretation.

Greene, for his part, deemed Omar's remarks to be "treasonous." While introducing the resolution, she appeared to make a quip by referring to Omar as the representative from Somalia, before cutting off and referring to her as a Minnesota lawmaker.

"These statements by Representative Omar clearly violated the oath she took as an elected member of Congress to defend and protect the United States constitution," Greene said. "Representative Omar has revealed herself to be a foreign agent acting on behalf of a foreign government."

The Georgia lawmaker's resolution further called for Omar's removal from multiple committees.
