Gaetz introduces bill to abolish the USAID
"USAID does not serve a meaningful purpose," Gaetz said.
Florida GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz introduced legislation Tuesday to abolish the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
"USAID does not serve a meaningful purpose," he said. "It is used as a slush fund for international 'wokeism.' Therefore, serious lawmakers in Congress should support its complete abolition."
The USAID does humanitarian work and poverty reduction internationally.
The department has been pushing issues such as gender equity programs, climate change and abortion, according to The Daily Caller.
Co-sponsors on this bill include GOP Reps. Andy Biggs, Arizona; Marjorie Taylor Greene, Georgia, and Anna Paulina Luna, Florida.
"American taxpayer dollars are being wasted to fund radical leftist propaganda in foreign countries," Gaetz also said. "The American people will not tolerate government-funded degeneracy at home, and we certainly will not accept its force-feeding abroad under Old Glory."
The bill would take away funds that are not obligated to be made available for the agency, and the secretary of state would be given the assets or liabilities.
