National Black Farmers Association leader blasts Biden for 'breaking promises'
Through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), Biden attempted to cancel $4 billion in debt owed by farmers of color.
National Black Farmers Association (NBFA) President John Boyd derided the Biden administration over its repeal of a debt relief program targeting farmers of color.
Through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), Biden attempted to cancel $4 billion in debt owed by farmers of color though a string of lawsuits challenging the racial criteria for debt relief hamstrung the effort, the Epoch Times noted. Boyd said that Biden had broken his promise to speak with him directly via FaceTime and lamented that the debt cancellation effort had failed.
"We went from 120 percent debt forgiveness, which means 100 percent of your loan will be written off, and 20 percent to pay the taxes to some sort of loan modification," Boyd said in an interview with NTD's "Capitol Report," per the Times. "And the administration broke his promise... The president failed to do what he promised to America's black and other farmers of color."
Boyd further suggested that the Biden administration's inability to deliver on its promised debt relief would cause his organization and the people it represented to reconsider its support of the president in the 2024 presidential contest.
"The president went back on his word to help black farmers in this country," he concluded. "And we're going to look at that during election time. And we're also going to take a strong look at that during this reelection campaign."
