NH Gov. Sununu swats down primary challengers
Sununu first won the state's top job in 2016 and has twice secured reelection in the swing state.
New Hampshire Republican Gov. Chris Sununu easily won his party primary on Tuesday, securing the Republican nod as he seeks a fourth term as governor.
The incumbent defeated five primary challengers and won with 79.1% of the vote, according to the Associated Press. He will go on to face Democrat Tom Sherman, who ran unopposed for his party's nomination.
Sununu first won the state's top job in 2016 and has twice secured reelection in the swing state. New Hampshire holds gubernatorial elections every two years but does not impose term limits.
Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan, meanwhile, beat back two challengers and will face the ultimate victor of the state's Republican primary. That race will be one of several tough contests in the battle for Congress's upper chamber in November.
