Ohio governor casts doubt on rumors of migrants eating pets
"This is something that came up on the internet and the internet can be quite crazy sometimes," he went on.
Ohio GOP Gov. Mike DeWine this week cast doubt on claims that Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, were abducting and eating local pets and wildlife, citing the city mayor's claim that no evidence existed to support such allegations.
Former President Donald Trump relayed the accounts of migrants eating pets during the Tuesday evening presidential debate, while Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, indicated that his office had received inquiries from town residents about the issue.
DeWine, however, dismissed the story during an interview with CBS News, saying "look the mayor... says there's no truth in that."
"I think we go with what the mayor says, he knows his city," he went on.
"This is something that came up on the internet and the internet can be quite crazy sometimes," he went on.
"In Springfield, they're eating the dogs... the people that came in," Trump said during the debate. "They're eating the cats. They're eating the pets of the people that live there, and this is what's happening in our country, and it's a shame."
