Ohio Sen. Brown raises more than $12M in Q1 as Senate race heats up

Moreno won the Republican primary in late March, triumphing over both state Sen. Matt Dolan and Secretary of State Frank LaRose.

Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown has amassed a considerable war chest to fuel his reelection bid in a state that has increasingly skewed toward the Republicans in recent election cycles.

Former President Donald Trump currently enjoys a polling lead over President Joe Biden in Ohio and Brown will likely struggle to triumph in the state if it breaks for the GOP at the top of the ticket. He is facing a challenge from Republican candidate Bernie Moreno.

Potentially aiding Brown's efforts, however, will be his fundraising totals. The campaign announced on Wednesday that it had raised more than $12 million in the first quarter of 2024, according to The Hill. He raised $6.6 million in the last quarter. Moreno, for his part, has roughly $2.39 million available and raised $800,000 in the final quarter of 2023.

"While Sherrod's opponent makes it clear he’s only out for himself and is using his millions to try to buy Ohio’s Senate seat, Sherrod has unprecedented grassroots support behind his reelection campaign," Brown campaign manager Rachel Petri said.

Moreno won the Republican primary in late March, triumphing over both state Sen. Matt Dolan and Secretary of State Frank LaRose. Polling data from prior to the primary, however, have suggested Brown holds a edge over his Republican challenger.
