Pence won't back Trump in 2024

Former Vice President Mike Pence on Friday confirmed that he would not endorse former President Donald Trump after running against him in the Republican primary.

The pair had a high-profile falling out after the 2020 election over Pence's assertion that he lacked the constitutional authority to reject the results. Trump, for his part, had challenged the outcome, claiming the vote had been tainted by fraud.

"It should come as no surprise that I will not be endorsing Donald Trump this year," he said during an appearance on Fox News. "Look, I'm incredibly proud of the record of our administration. It was a conservative record that made America more prosperous, more secure, and saw conservatives appointed to our courts and a more peaceful world."

"But that being said, during my presidential campaign I made clear that there were profound differences between me and President Trump on a range of issues. And not just our difference on my constitutional duties that I exercised on Jan. 6," he went on.

Pence further highlighted a range of issues, including abortion, the national debt, and banning TikTok where he disagreed with his former running mate.

"I cannot in good conscience endorse Donald Trump in this campaign," he asserted.

Pence ran for the Republican presidential nomination this cycle, but was unsuccessful. He notably participated in Republican National Committee (RNC) debates, a requirement of which was a promise to endorse the eventual nominee.

Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley also declined to endorse Trump despite having pledged to back the eventual nominee. Trump last week racked up enough delegates to win the Republican primary.
