Former Republican Gov. Hogan brings Senate race in Democrat-leaning Maryland to dead heat: poll

The Senate race in liberal-leaning Maryland between former GOP Gov. Larry Hogan and Angela Alsobrooks, a Democrat county executive, is now tied, according to a new poll.
The AARP poll released Tuesday shows Hogan and Prince George’s County Executive Alsobrooks tied at 47%, with 7% of respondents undecided and 1% saying they plan to vote for someone else.
Hogan completed his two terms in Maryland in 2023 with a high approval rating.
The state has not elected a Republican senator since 1987. Hogan and Alsobrooks are competing for the seat of retiring Democrat Sen. Ben. Cardin.
The most recent RealClearPolitics polls average shows Alsobrook leading by 6 percentage points.
“Voters 50 and older are the biggest and most enthusiastic voting bloc in this election, and their votes will make the difference in the tight U.S. Senate race this year,” said Hank Greenberg, Maryland state director at AARP, in a press release.
